To Stubborn Raindrops, May You Always Soldier On

The monsoon rain falls bravely on slightly engrossed uncovered heads,
The cool wetness seeping through the summer sun's thirsty skin.
It rolls down furrowed slopes of foreheads
and the tumbling bridges of noses
and a solitary rain drop finds its way to the very tip
and pauses,
Silent. Still.
As if searching for the courage to let go,
Waiting for the slightest tremble of agitation
and coyly it falls finally to waiting lips,
Quenching their need for
The everlasting sense of fulfillment
and as the drops begin to fall faster, slyly dodging curling eyelashes,
Filling folded creases of elbows and fingers
and overflowing their bounds,
Ever free
Don't you see...
They play with touch-me-not umbrellas,
With hurried feet hidden in shoes and
With dancing bits of clothing that rhythmically peek from under their
shades to wave to windy streams forming
in rock bottom puddles.
Don't you see, their pride,
In being resilient, unrelenting and unwavering.
They fall regardless of raised umbrellas and shielding raincoats,
Who vehemently protest their comforting arrival,
Not caring whether we stop to watch their secret nudges at the leaves to finally bloom
Not caring if we stop to watch the miracle of cleansing,
The way nature intended it.
Not caring to see how they drip off of treetops, one at a time,
As if daring the winds to try and shake them off.
They are always finding new ways to drench dry clothes and
Those lonely spaces between solitary toes.
Don't you see,
Their ever proud, ever there, call to freedom.
Freedom from whatever it is that hold us back
From dropping our guard and spreading out arms to
Give way to pouring rain, to fall where it wills-
Down carefully sculpted arches of backs and
Abysses of bellybuttons,
and tilting angles of hips and ankles.
So unaware are they, of the carefully planned schemes within stubborn skulls
on what to do next with life,
and streaming, relentless thoughts that accompany the everyday motions of life,
While secretly trying to uncover the hidden thoughts of friends, let alone enemies,
and answers regarding the true meaning of love, the purpose of life and
Other innumerable and utterly unimportant questions we spend too much time analyzing
Before realizing they never really mattered as long as you were happy,
and living life with your heart worn proudly on your shoulder.
Oh yes, how dare they fall, those gorgeous drops,
Blissfully unaware of how many appointments would be delayed or classes you'd be tardy to
If they decided to rain down on the cringing bodies of the millions
Suffocating from the choke hold that their own thoughts and actions
Have put on them.
But I sing to you this ode, oh heavenly skies,
That even though I too cringe sometimes when you fall,
You still always manage to awaken and inspire me
and put a twinkle in my eye.
I can only hope that your stubborn resistance to our personal bubbles
and your war cry against our stubborn selves who refuse to pause for a moment to look up,
Beyond ourselves, will teach me a lesson.
I can only hope that this time, I will finally learn to stop, spread my arms wide and smile.
